ToneCarve · FAQ
Straight answers before the first build.
What ToneCarve does, where it fits, what you need to measure, and what early access actually means.
Is ToneCarve a vehicle speaker-correction system?+
No. ToneCarve analyzes how one exact mix changes when it is played in a vehicle. The car is a translation environment, not a speaker system ToneCarve tries to permanently flatten or correct.
Why does ToneCarve need my original mix?+
The original WAV is the reference for that test. Without it, ToneCarve can describe a recording but cannot reliably determine which changes came from the vehicle playback. Every capture must remain paired with its exact source and mix version.
Do I need a measurement microphone or audio interface in the car?+
Initial research uses a consistent phone and controlled recording position so the core source-to-capture workflow can be tested. Phone recordings remain labeled as uncalibrated. Later validation can evaluate calibrated microphones without changing the product’s track-specific purpose.
Does Bluetooth versus aux matter?+
Yes. Bluetooth codecs, vehicle processing, wired connections, and playback level can all affect the captured result. ToneCarve stores the playback path with each session so those conditions remain visible rather than being mistaken for mix decisions.
Can I use ToneCarve in Studio One or LUNA?+
That is the first compatibility target. The initial native plug-in is planned as VST3 because current Studio One and LUNA versions support it on macOS and Windows. An Audio Units build can follow for macOS workflows.
What makes a research capture usable?+
A usable capture has the exact source WAV, a clear mix-version label, complete vehicle and playback details, at least one full matching take, and no recording interruption. Repeat takes improve confidence. A timer alone is never treated as proof that audio was actually recorded.
Will ToneCarve automatically EQ my final master?+
ToneCarve is a diagnostic and auditioning tool, not a one-click mastering promise. It can suggest focused moves for the current song, but the engineer can adjust or reject every recommendation.
When will outside engineers test it?+
The first research phase is founder-led so the source files, mix changes, vehicles, and repeat conditions stay controlled. A small outside-engineer validation phase begins only after the capture and comparison workflow is reliable.
What will early-access pricing be?+
Pricing has not been finalized. Joining the list does not commit you to a purchase. Early testers will receive the build details and any introductory pricing before a public release.
